Un paseo por Collioure

Seguro que ya habéis oído hablar de este pueblo situado a tan sólo 26km de la frontera Española, en la región de Languedoc – Rosellón.

Collioure fue cuna de muchos artistas como Matisse, Derain, Picasso o el poeta Antonio Machado, quien encontró en Collioure su refugio durante el exilio. Falleció allí en 1939 y está enterrado en su pequeño cementerio, que es lugar de peregrinaje.

Tengo que reconocer que me esperaba un pueblo de dimensiones más reducidas, un tipo Cadaqués. Pero impacta la gran bahía coronada por el Chateau Royal.

Al legar al final del paseo por la playa y bordear el castillo te encuentras un pequeño puerto y otro gran paseo hasta llegar a la Iglesia de Notre Dame des Anges.

Desde allí sale un largo espigón que se adentra en el mar y en el que encontráis la coqueta capilla de San Vicente, que tiene unas vistas geniales a todo el pueblo.

En la zona de la Iglesia de Notre Dame des Anges, encontraréis la oficina de Turismo en la que os darán un mapa y les podéis preguntar todas las dudas que tengáis. Si os gusta callejear, en esta zona es dónde se concentran las tiendecitas, galerías de arte  y restaurantes de pescado: son típicas las anchoas de Collioure o los mejillones con patatas fritas.

Si vais subiendo por los callejones y os alejáis un poco del centro encontraréis callejuelas monísimas con casitas pintadas de rosa o azul llenas de flores, muy Barcelonette 🙂

Para ver las magníficas vistas sobre todo el pueblo vale la pena subir al Fuerte San Elmo, construido por el emperador Carlos V en 1542. Se puede visitar de abril a septiembre y podéis subir en el trenecito del pueblo o en coche.

Te recomiendo esta pequeña escapada para pasar un día tranquilo bordeando el mar y visitando el pueblo, disfrutando de los pequeños momentos y de un día diferente lejos de la ciudad. ¿Has estado ya en Collioure? I have to admit I was expecting a smaller sized town like Cadaqués. Look at the size of the bay crowned by the Chateau Royal.

When you finish your walk around the beach surrounding the castle you find a small harbor and a large walk up to the church of Notre Dame des Anges.

From there, you can stay for a white at the long pier next to the charming chapel of San Vicente, which has great views over the town.

In the area of the Church of Notre Dame des Anges, you will find the tourist office where you can take a map and ask them all the questions you have. If you like promenades this is the perfect area as there are plenty of little shops, art galleries and fish restaurants (you have to try the Collioure anchovies and mussels with fries).

If you go up the alleys you and you set yourselves away from the center you’ll find this super cute streets with pink and blue houses… so Barcelonette! 🙂

To see the magnificent views it is worth to walk to Fort St. Elmo built by Emperor Charles V in 1542. Visit are from April to September and you can get there by train or by car.

I recommend this little getaway to spend a quiet day along the sea and visiting the town, enjoying the little moments away from the city. Have you already been to Collioure?
